About

Profile picture of Carmel

I am a freelance proofreader focused on refining written content for improved precision and quality. With experience editing and proofreading complex documents for planning professionals and high-value medico-legal expert witness reports, I now offer a knowledgeable ‘critical friend’ proofreading service to planning professionals in both local authorities and private practice.

As an Intermediate Level member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP) and holder of a recognised proofreading qualification, my background spans local government, further education, and the commercial sector. I have successfully operated my own business for eighteen years.

Guided by a disciplined work ethic, I thrive under tight deadlines and maintain a reputation for meticulous attention to detail. I am skilled in swiftly building client relationships that foster collaboration and trust.

More about me

I was originally from Lancashire but am now happily settled in the Derbyshire Dales. My early career was as an information professional, but I have had my own project management business for many years.

I have been singing since the age of 5 and I am classically trained. I am a member of Musicke in the Ayre, a collective of musicians exploring the repertoire of the 16th and 17th century. I have written and performed in my own show: “Cissie's Songbook”, based on the music of Ivor Novello.

When not singing I can be found hiking the hills of Derbyshire or in my clogs practising Lakeland step dances.
